Covey & Virginia | A Destination Wedding at Quinta dos Machados in Mafra
Portugal was the perfect setting for Covey and Virginia’s wedding at Quinta dos Machados. This enchanting venue in Mafra, surrounded by rolling hills, peaceful gardens, and charming Portuguese architecture, created the dream backdrop for their day.
The bride and groom, both from the United States, had long been in love with Portugal. With its warm climate even in November, its welcoming people, and its rich cultural heritage, Mafra felt like the perfect place to begin their married life together.

The Ceremony and Reception
The atmosphere was filled with love, laughter, and happy tears. Virginia looked radiant in a classic trumpet-shaped white gown, while Covey looked sharp in his tuxedo. They exchanged heartfelt vows surrounded by the lush gardens of Quinta dos Machados and stunning floral designs by Happy Day Events.
One of the most touching moments was the couple’s first dances with their parents, setting the tone for a fun yet emotional evening. Guests were also treated to a uniquely Portuguese touch, with ginja (a local cherry liqueur) served at the end of the meal.
Wedding Design and Details
Every detail reflected thoughtful planning. With Olivia from Nulyweds orchestrating the design, the reception was filled with elegance and charm. From the carefully styled flower arrangements to the warm glow of the décor, the day felt both intimate and celebratory.
The culinary experience was another highlight. The catering team at Quinta dos Machados delighted guests with traditional Portuguese dishes, paired with wines that celebrated the local flavors of Mafra.
A November Wedding Full of Light and Emotion
What made this wedding even more remarkable is that it took place in November. While many couples worry about cooler weather or cloudy skies, Covey and Virginia’s day proved just how magical this season can be in Portugal. The climate was mild enough for a beautiful outdoor ceremony, and the soft November light gave their photographs a timeless, romantic glow. Sometimes people think cloudy days don’t make for good wedding photos, but the truth is they often bring the most flattering tones and depth.
For me personally, this wedding remains unforgettable. The love and warmth I felt from Virginia, Covey, and their families made it such a heartfelt experience to capture. Beyond the beautiful details and setting, it was the genuine emotions that made this Quinta dos Machados wedding so special.
A Celebration to Remember
Covey and Virginia’s Quinta dos Machados wedding was the perfect blend of American traditions and Portuguese culture. Their joy was contagious, and the celebration left lasting smiles on the faces of their family and friends.
For couples dreaming of a destination wedding in Mafra, Quinta dos Machados offers a serene, nature-filled escape where every detail feels timeless and romantic.
