Portugal Wedding Photographer

For the people who want to remember not just how their wedding looked, but how it felt.

I got you, babe

I’m a documentary wedding photographer based in Palmela, Portugal, photographing weddings in Lisbon, Setúbal, Azeitão, Palmela, Comporta, Sintra and throughout Portugal.

My approach is calm, observant and emotionally driven, with an editorial eye for beautiful light, honest moments and all the little things that make your wedding yours.

You won’t need to perform for the camera.

I’ll be there to witness it all with presence, instinct and an eye for the moments you might otherwise miss.

From a quiet morning wandering through Lisbon to golden hour on the coast, we’ll choose a setting that suits your relationship and let the rest unfold naturally.

Crazy little thing called love

My style combines documentary wedding photography with an editorial touch. I’m there to notice the moments as they unfold — the nervous hands, the ridiculous dance moves, the people you love laughing in the background, and all those little in-between moments you probably won’t even notice on the day.

I’ll give you direction when it helps, especially during portraits or parts of the day that benefit from a little structure, but I’ll never turn your wedding into a series of poses. Instead, I want your photographs to feel like you: natural, effortless and full of personality, while still having that considered, editorial feel.

Think less “stand here and smile” and more “I’ll tell you what to do, then let you forget I’m there.”

Documentary wedding photography in Portugal

Your wedding day doesn’t need to be turned into a photoshoot.

There will be moments that are planned, of course. The ceremony. The portraits. The family photographs. The first dance.

But some of the most meaningful photographs will happen when nobody is thinking about the camera.

A hand squeezing yours before you walk down the aisle. Your dad trying not to cry. Your friends laughing so hard they can barely stand. Your grandmother dancing. The look you give each other across a crowded room.

My style combines documentary wedding photography with an editorial touch. I’ll give you direction when it helps, especially during portraits and parts of the day that benefit from a little structure, but I’ll never turn your wedding into a series of poses.

The photographs should feel like you.

Weddings across Portugal

‘m based in Palmela and photograph weddings throughout Portugal, from intimate celebrations in Lisbon to destination weddings along the coast and countryside.

Some of the places I regularly photograph include:

Lisbon — historic streets, elegant venues, city celebrations and intimate weddings.

Sintra & Cascais — romantic estates, gardens and Atlantic landscapes.

Setúbal, Palmela & Azeitão — vineyards, historic properties, countryside celebrations and the Arrábida coast.

Comporta & the Alentejo coast — relaxed destination weddings, natural landscapes and understated celebrations.

Further across Portugal — if you’re planning a wedding somewhere else, tell me where. I love travelling for good stories.

If you’re still choosing your venue, I can also help you think through the photography side of the decision — light, locations, timing and how the spaces will work throughout your day.

Meet your Portugal wedding photographer

Hi, I’m Rita.

I’m the person behind the camera and the one you’ll probably find somewhere between the dancefloor and the back of the room, quietly observing what’s happening and making sure I don’t miss the good stuff.

I’ve been photographing people full-time since 2014, but photography has been part of my life for much longer.

I grew up around my aunt’s photography shop, surrounded by cameras, prints and the magic of seeing a photograph become something you could actually hold.

My background isn’t in traditional photography school I originally studied cardia Physiology before photography completely took over. Somewhere along the way, I realised I wanted to spend my days doing something that made people feel something.

These days, I photograph weddings across Portugal with a documentary approach and an editorial eye. I’m calm when things get chaotic, gently bossy when we need to be somewhere, and very good at pretending I haven’t noticed when someone is sneaking extra cake.

Most importantly, I’m here to make you feel comfortable.

Because the best photographs rarely happen when you’re trying to look good for the camera. They happen when you forget it’s there.

Come get to know me a bit better.

What couples say
about working with me

Rita was the photographer at our wedding and helped up capture our special day. She was incredibly professional and good at making us and our guests feel comfortable in front of a camera, and took excellent candid photos without us realizing. We cannot thank you enough for the incredible memories!

Rita was absolutely wonderful throughout the whole process of planning our wedding. From our very first conversation, we immediately felt a connection with her, and we knew she was the wedding photographer we wanted for our day. When we finally met in person on our wedding day, Rita made us feel completely at ease. She created such a relaxed, fun atmosphere that everyone around us felt comfortable, which made such a difference throughout the day. She was professional, warm and incredibly attentive without ever making us feel like we were constantly being posed or photographed. We truly couldn’t have chosen a better wedding photographer in Portugal. We’ll treasure these wedding photographs and the memories they bring back for the rest of our lives. Thank you so much, Rita!

What working with me feels like

Your wedding photography should feel easy from the very beginning.

No awkward posing. No endless back-and-forth. No wondering what happens next.

Just good communication, thoughtful planning and someone in your corner who knows when to step in and when to simply let the moment happen.

Calm when things are calm. Useful when things aren’t.

Wedding days rarely go exactly according to plan.

Someone is late. The flowers arrive at the wrong time. It starts raining. Your ceremony runs over. Your uncle disappears when it’s time for family photographs.

It happens.

You don’t need your photographer adding to the chaos.

I’ll help where I can, keep an eye on the timeline and make sensible decisions when something changes — while keeping the focus on what actually matters: you having a great day.

FAQ

You’ll find answers to the most common questions below, but if there’s anything else on your mind, feel free to reach out.

I’m always happy to help — just send a message to rita@ritasantanaphotography.com and I’ll get back to you within 24-72 hours.

For popular wedding dates, especially Saturdays during the summer, I recommend getting in touch as early as possible.

That said, it’s always worth asking. If your date is available, we’ll take it from there.

Absolutely.

I’m based in Palmela but photograph weddings throughout Portugal, including Lisbon, Sintra, Cascais, Comporta, the Alentejo and other destinations.

Travel arrangements will depend on the location and coverage required.

Yes.

I regularly work with couples planning their weddings from abroad and I’m very comfortable helping with the planning remotely.

Every wedding is different, so I don’t work from a rigid number of photographs.

You’ll receive a carefully curated gallery that tells the complete story of your day, with all the important moments, people and in-between photographs preserved.

You’ll receive your final online gallery within three weeks.

Your gallery includes a curated collection of professionally edited photographs, with the exact number depending on the session you choose.

Also, matter where in the world you are, your gallery includes access to a private online store where you can order heirloom prints, albums and other keepsakes — all from the comfort of home.

Your final gallery will be delivered within 90 days of your wedding.

If you’re dying to see something sooner, I’ll also send you a sneak peek shortly after the wedding so you don’t have to wait three months to relive it.

Documentary first, with an editorial touch.

I’ll photograph things as they happen naturally, while giving you gentle direction during portraits and other moments where it helps.

The aim is for your photographs to feel honest, emotional and beautifully composed without feeling staged.

Wedding photography investment

You don’t get a second take.

The light will shift. The hug will end. The glance will pass.

And then it’s gone.

What remains is the way it was seen.

As a Portugal documentary wedding photographer, I’m not just there to document what happened. I’m there to catch what could have been missed — the subtle, the wild and the emotional truth of your day.

I bring presence, instinct and years of experience to make sure nothing that matters gets lost.

You’re not just paying for photographs.

You’re investing in the memory of the day with clarity, care and soul.

Full-day wedding photography starts at €2,000.

For elopements and celebrations that don’t fit a standard collection, I’ll create a custom proposal around your plans.

This will be an everlasting love
